Under 8's Report
On a really warm day and down to only 13 fit players both teams were a credit to the club in not only the way they played but in the commitment they showed when it counted. This was the only competitive tournament that we have played and there were strong teams from amongst others Crawley, Uckfield and Forest Row.
The Red Team of Matthew, Harvey, Adam, Nat, Freddie, Euan, and Will finished third in their group, with good wins over Ringmer & Uckfield, only going down narrowly to a strong Crawley & Brazil like Wisborough team, they came third and only just missed out on a place in the Semi-Final.
The Blue team got through to the Semis by finishing top of their group.
With the weather and late nights (half of the Squad had been up camping until 2am) taking their toll the team were able to draught Euan in as a sub for the later stages.
A narrow and hard fought semi-final win against Crawley B's meant a final against Crawley A's who we had drawn 0-0 with in the group stages.
What a final, anyone who says that childrens football is neither competitive nor stressful obviously has never watched a cup final.
With the best football we have witnessed all season and both teams missing chances, Crawley broke the deadlock just before half time, at 1-0 down and the final whistle about to blow we got a corner. What can only be described as pinnball followed and to everyones relief the ball was put into the goal by our leading scorer Tom.
So six minutes of extra time, a serious of fine saves by Freddie off every part of his body kept us in the game. Then on the stroke of half time more fine work by Harry saw the ball drop to Will who drilled it into the back of the net. We all thought the last three minutes would never end, but great defending by Oliver, Freddie & Euan saw us through.
This win was the culmination of our season, it was obviously a fantastic effort by the team but more importantly the squad as a whole.
