Quarter-Final Shield

On a energy sapping, swelteringly hot day we made our way to the Ridgewaye tournament, apprehensive following our poor display at Broad Oak two weeks previously. But we need not have worried against some very strong opposition all the boys did exceptionally well. The pitches were very dry and the ball bobbled around a lot but with Rory and Connor very strong in defence and the goal keeping duties shared between Lucas, Tyler and Oliver P we kept five clean sheets in the group matches. We had plenty of chances in our final game against Langton Green in the group matches, which had we have won would have put us equal top of the group and into the Championship play offs. Anyhow it was not to be and we went into the Shield quarter final finishing equal third in the group a fine achievement.
We came up against Chipstead in the quarter-final and held our own only losing to a long shot late on in the game. Chipstead had previously won a couple of tournaments and had even beaten the revered Raw Skills earlier in the day.
All the boys can be very proud of themselves Lucas and Jack ran their socks of as usual in mid-field despite temperatures pitch side approaching 100 degrees. Rory and Connor look like to perfect defensive pairing and with a bit of luck Robert could have had a hat full of goals and again without Tyler and Oliver's sterling work between the posts the other five would not have been able to work so well together.
Overall as we said throughout the day this is a team game and all the boys worked hard for each other and should be very proud of their performance against such strong opposition in conditions more suited to sun bathing and a leisurely game of cricket than hundred mile an hour football!
