Match Report - 10 Oct 2009, Wadhurst United Junior Football Club Team not current lost to Hailsham

Hailsham have 46 players registered at under
10 and run four sides. To add to this both squads were missing first choice
players, particularly Oak, so we knew this was going to be a tough day.

Hailsham Colts B 2 v Wadhurst Oak 0

With five first team players missing we managed to put out a side who
all worked hard in every position throughout the game. Harrison again
kept us in the match and despite conceding an early goal we battled
hard to get back into the game.
Our makeshift defense of Cameron, Lucas and Jacob held the line
superbly throughout and having never played together did very well
against a very physical and big Hailsham front line. Unfortunately we
lacked a bit of their physicality up front but despite this we managed
to create a number of good chances to score with Billy, Tyler and
Louis all going close.
This was hard fought game and we battled throughout - with new recruit
Cameron we have a great player and captain who led through example and
kept the lads heads up despite losing by two goals.

Man of the Match - Cameron - Well done on Debut

Hailsham Colts A 2 v Wadhurst Oak 0

To be honest in the second game we were just a bit unlucky at the end
of the day. That old cliche of taking your chances when they come
along couldn't have been more true. Defensively we were again strong
with good work from makeshift goalie Lucas and Cameron, Jacob and
Louis keeping it tight. We had a number of clear cut chances and
dominated for periods of the game we just couldn't put the ball in the
back of the net. We can take heart with the move of the match - a
quick, short kick out from the goalie, a lovely pass onto Louis from
Cameron, then Louis tapped it up to Tyler who was unlucky not to
finish. That move should go into every players head three passes and a
shot on goal with the opposition just watching on beautiful - football
really is a simple game !

Man of the Match - Jacob "but I'm not a defender"

Hailsham Colts A 2 v Wadhurst Beech 0

With our first choice goalkeeper Will "the cat" Spence unavailable, Robert was drafted in as keeper and quickly in the thick of the action, making several exceellent saves in a first half that saw Beech very much in defense mode. With Connor and Kyle well supported at the back by Oscar, Max and Matthew, the boys did well to hold out even though Robert was kept busy. Both Bailey and Oliver P did some excellent work locking in with their midfield support and Beech did manage a couple of threats on goal. However, following further brave defending, and with Kyle off the field recovering from a ball in the face, it was a fortunate deflection that led to the first Hailsham goal. The second was a well taken piece of individual skill to round the defense and sneak the ball past Robert at an acute angle almost on the full time whistle. A really brave performance from all of the boys who played with real determination and some excellent movement and passing.

Man of the Match - Robert for a truly outstanding performance in between the posts

Hailsham Colts B 1 v Wadhurst Beech 3

With Kyle still recovering from his knock, Bailey took to defense and from the kick off, Beech looked like the stronger and more capable side. With Robert switching to attack, it was not long before Beech were a goal up with a great finish from Robert, and from a very acute angle. The boys kept up a good pace and with some fine passing moves, Robert was put clear on goal again with another fine finish from the opposite flank, and we took a 2 nil lead at half time, although with better finishing it could have been 4 or 5. The lack of available substitutes took its toll in the second half however, and the boys began to look very tired although Kyle did make it back on for a second spell. Hailsham scored well from a surprising penalty decision leaving Oliver with little chance, and whilst with the fatigue, the boys lost a bit of shape, it was a looping, spinning cross from Oscar which sealed the win.

Man of the Match - Connor - played a real captain's role in both games

Special mention to all those boys who were drafted in to cover for our
first choice picks who were unavailable. Against a strong, physical and
skillful side they all worked hard throughout. Great team effort
