Match Report - 15 Apr 2012, Wadhurst United Junior Football Club Team not current beat Sevenoaks Town
With Luke ill and the promise that the cup final subs would start today the starting line up was somewhat changed. Sam Evans volunteered to go in goal and last season’s back four of Ross J, Jake, Mike and Sam F were back together for the first time this season. Wadhurst dominated play from the kick off but were finding it difficult to cope with Sevenoak’s off-side trap, on the occasions we did break through Louis, Woody and Ross L wasted the chances. The deserved goal did finally arrive just before half time when Callum tapped in at the far post.
Carlin and Harvey came on at half time into their usual full back positions, giving Ross J and Sam F a chance to push forward. We also started to play the ball into space for our forwards to use their pace, instead of trying to play to their feet, and as a consequence we were now beating the off-side trap every time. A hatrick in the first 15 minutes for Louis was testament to the change in tactics and personnel.
Sevenoaks did rally briefly, scoring with two long range shots, but Woody, who was having a great game on the right wing, scored the fifth with a cross/shot. Sam F added the sixth but most people missed it as they were more interested in watching Murrie and James squaring up to the opposition. Ross L headed in the seventh for a well deserved goal as his speed and strength had caused problems for the Sevenoaks defence all game.
A good result that improved the goal difference, but we missed a hat full of chances and should really have reached double figures. MotM went to Woody.
