Match Report

Match Report - 07 Nov 2009, Wadhurst United Junior Football Club Team not current lost to Rusthall

A great morning of football, albeit on the smallest pitches in the league and struggling through several inches of mud!

Rusthall 3 v 1 Wadhurst Oak

We started very brightly and were one up after a minute with a well taken goal from Bailey. The boys struggled in the conditions as it proved difficult to play the fluid football we've seen in the last few weeks. We battled it out up to half time going in level. In the second half Rusthall were much the more aggressive and energetic side as we had to play up the slope in a pitch getting more and more difficult. Despite hard work from the defence we failed to take our chances and went down to the side more used to playing on their home pitches.

Man of the Match. Will back competing at his best Kinchin

Rusthall 0 v 1 Wadhurst Oak

Perhaps we got used to the conditions, maybe it was the jaffa cakes working but we really stepped it up in the second match. Again conditions made it difficult for our passing game to flourish but we just did not stop running. A well taken goal from Rob was the difference between the sides. But this was a team all working for each other. Jack and Lucas covered acres of ground and refused to give up the lead. Louis played exceptionnally well down the left and Cameron was again Mr reliable in mid-field. Special mention to Harrison "Shilts" Walker for keeping a clean sheet.

Man of the Match Louis never stopped running.

It was great to see the joy that winning brings on the boys faces.

Rusthall 1 v 1 Wadhurst Beech

It was a beautiful sunny morning for a game of football, and Beech got off to a bright start, with Louis kindly stepping in to shore us up for the first 5 minutes. Oscar and Matthew stepped it up a gear and following some great defensive work, Oscar took Beech on the attack, and a beautfully threaded ball to Max who had worked himself some space - Beech were a goal up at half time. There was some terrific passing and movement when Beech were coming forward, Max working tirelessly as ever and Oscar always looking threatening with the ball, as well as putting in the yards to win it back. In spite of excellent work in defense from Connor, Jacob and Kyle, Rusthall won a goalmouth scramble to draw level.

Man of the Match: Oscar Steward - a constant threat with the ball at his feet and some truly excellent passing

Rusthall 3 v 2 Wadhurst Beech

Against the stronger side of the two, we leaked an early goal but struck back almost immediately with a well worked strike. The defense was clearly going to be in for a tough time and whilst Connor played another fully committed game at central defence, he had some great company in Jacob and Oliver P who made life really difficult for the opposition to penetrate the penalty area. And whilst Beech went another goal down, a neat looping strike from Oscar took us into the break honours even. Will was kept busy between the sticks and kept Beech in the game in spite of some strong attacking play from Rusthall, but we could not quite hold out the full 30 minutes and went down 3 -2.

Man of the Match: Will Spence - kept Beech in the game and gave his all.

The boys seemed to thoroughly enjoy the morning, and worked hard for one another - some great defensive work and movement going forward particularly on the left side of the field - just need to find a bit more punch in front of goal!
