Match Report - 18 Jan 2009, Wadhurst United Junior Football Club Team not current beat Tonbridge Invicta

Wadhurst United 4 - 2 Tonbridge Invicta

A Sunday morning lay-in, the smell of succulent bacon sandwiches flowing up the stairs, a read of the Sunday papers, all things we could be doing on the 'day of leisure' ... but no, we chose again to stand, shout and raise our blood pressure watching the skills/talent of Wadhurst United - pat on the back to you first !!!

It was another fixture, were we gave our opponents the customary 1-0 lead, before we woke up and realised it wasn't a bowl of weetabix in front of us, but another game we had to win, to achieve our seasons ambition.

The unforgiving format, in which we are our own worse ememy, unraveled in front of us, even though Tonbridge Invicta are a tough and gritty team and worthy of their impressive league position, to play at our full potential this should of been an easier 3 points than it was.

The 1st half however had one magic moment by Billy Whizz a.k.a Lewis Santer, a magic run down the left wing, a cut inside the left back and a bullet of a shot, that rippled the net in a comic book style - great goal Lewis !!!

Then with the gratefully received benefit of an own goal, even though this wouldn't of been possible without Mark Hemsleys surging and positive run down the wing, enabled us to go in for a half time orange 2-1 up.

The 2nd half mirrored the 1st, with end to end attacking, but, with the dependable Michael McKernan regularly putting a perfectly timed foot in the tackle, Wadhurst were always in control.

Unfortunately, some sloppy defending and marking allowed Tonbridge back into the game - so take note all - all of you MUST, stay focused and in control for every single minute of the game - NO EXCEPTIONS.

An ever growing confident Lewis Santer, made it 3-2 to Wadhurst - Lewis make these performances more 70 minutes and not 50, then were talking.

This fixture, brought the talked about debut of Louis Mansfield, a player with a good touch and rabbit like turn of speed, it's going to be good to see Louis at his full potential, one measured touch by Louis set up Toby Bunday to add another to his seasons tally of 'thunderbolt goals' - another real netbuster, well done Bash !!!!

This again, was very much a team effort, and to pick a Man of the Match, would of been difficult, but on the basis of 2 cracking goals, this honour fulls into the hands of Lewis Santer - well done Lewis !!!

In summary, this was a hard, tough and messy battle and one were we were a long way of our potential, but were in any league in the land, if you play badly but still pick up 3 points, anything can happen, sometimes it brings promotion - but there time will tell, so its in your hands boys - how much do you really want it !!!
