Match Report

Match Report - 21 Feb 2009, Wadhurst United Junior Football Club Team not current lost to Edenbridge

Well the question for this week was whether our performance against Ashurst Wood was a fluke or could Wadhurst United continue to play with great passing, skill and attitude.

Edenbridge started with the confidence of having one team at the top of the table and the other team not far behind.

Oak Match Report

1st match Wadhurst 3 – 0 Edenbridge

Oak’s first game was a joy to watch, with fantastic passing movement from the back, up the wings and crosses into the box, with a striker waiting and ready… exactly what we’ve been doing in training. This produced a winning result with 2 goals from Henry (one of which was finally a header from a perfect Daniel corner) and one from Toby.

2nd match Wadhurst 0 – 3 Edenbridge

Oak’s second game was against the stronger Edenbridge side, although, as their manager said, we had most of the play. The old age problem came back when Edenbridge got a goal and Wadhurst dropped their heads and what followed were two more Edenbridge goals. Each of their goals caught us on the break and Wadhurst lost their positions. The team didn’t deserve to loose 3-0 and I hope some lessons were learnt on keeping to your positions, doing what the coach asks of you and never giving up.

One player clearly stood out for Oak, for never giving in, being first to every ball, never chasing a ball that had been lost and getting in back and doing everything that was asked of him… Henry White was deservedly man of the match for Oak.

Final scores: Oak (Henry 2, Toby 1) 3 -0 Edenbridge, Oak 0-3 Edenbridge - Man of the Match Henry

Beech had the reversed situation. Their first match was a

Beech match report (courtesy of Cambiz):

1st match Wadhurst 0 - Edenbridge 3

We had no natural strikers present with Kit Ross, Kit Paterson and Sam Fairweather all away and decided to play with Jonathan Muldoon upfront. We also decided to play Ed Sewell in midfield as we had 4 good defenders in the team. Edenbridge had a very well organized team and took an early lead and scored a second before half time. Both goals could have been avoided but Wadhurst battled hard in the second half and were unfortunate not to get at least one goal back as they did create good chances and despite their efforts Edenbridge scored a third goal. We were very impressed with Ed in his right midfield role through the match. He worked very hard and was constantly running up and down the pitch. Felix, Sam and Ricky rotated in defence and held it well together and Fred's performance included some good saves. Harry was very occupied in midfield and James was effective on the left of midfield. Jonathan worked hard in his new role as striker and had some chances.

2nd match Wadurst 3 - Edenbridge 2

We were much stronger in this match and totally dominated it such that the scoreline flattered Edenbridge. Edenbridge took the lead against the run of play but Wadhurst remained focused and equalized through Harry after a well worked move. This gave us a great lift and Jonathan put us in the lead straight after half time with a powerful shot into the top corner. We had a number of chances after that but instead conceded a goal that levelled the score. The trio of our defenders were all excellent through this match and Ricky stood out in particular. Ed continued to shine on the right of midfield but he tired towards the end of the first half and played in goal in the second half. Fred made some good saves again in this match but our man of the match was Jonathan who scored an excellent second goal just before the end. He had to show composure for that and deserved his man of the match award both for his two goals and overall performance particularly as he was playing out of position.

Final scores: Beech 0-3 Edenbridge, Beech (Jonathan 2, Harry 1) 3 -2 Edenbridge - Man of the Match Jonathan
