Match Report - 11 Oct 2008, Wadhurst United Junior Football Club Team not current beat Rusthall
In their second competitive fixture, the Wolves and Wanderers visited Rusthall.
In their first game against Rusthall, the Wolves got off to a great start playing downhill when Ben Fox scored from the Wolves’ first attack. Possession and territory was all the Wolves’ way and Tom Locke had soon made it 2-0. Before half time Ben Fox added another to make it 3-0 at the break with Rusthall also having cleared off the line a couple of times. In the second half, Rusthall emerged looking more determined, not least because of a change of goalkeeper. The game was more balanced, but Archie Ive managed to stretch the Wolves’ lead with the team’s fourth goal. However, the Wolves’ team was then caught by a counterattack after the whole outfield team had pushed up for a corner and Rusthall scored on the break to make it 4-1. But Ben Fox scored back at the end to make it 5-1 and secure his hat-trick. All in all, it was a fine team performance on a heavy pitch with good play from all – not just the goalscorers, but Freddie Maxfield and Lars Milner did a good job in midfield and Edward Roberts was a rock in defence. Result: Won 5-1
In their second game, the Wolves found themselves against a stronger Rusthall team and possession and territory were more evenly shared. Notwithstanding this, Tom Locke scored the first goal (continuing his record of scoring in every match this season) and at half time it was 1-0 to the Wolves. The second half saw both sides making some good attacks. Wadhurst came close a number of times and again saw the ball cleared off the line, but at the other end some fine goalkeeping from Archie Ive was required to keep the Wolves ahead. However, as the game was drawing to a close and both teams were starting to look tired, Edward Roberts moved up from the back to score the second goal and make the result safe. Result: Won 2-0
The Wanderers were more successful, winning both games without conceding a goal. They won their first game 3-0 and their second game 5-0.
The goal scorers were the usual suspects of Eduardo, Louis, Luca and Archie C (3).
The Wanderers played very well as the scores indicate. The team generally held positions and there was some good passing going on.
