Match Report

Match Report - 27 Apr 2008, Wadhurst United Junior Football Club Team not current beat Uckfield

A good win against an improved and resolute Uckfield team.

This was another one of those matches where we were looking to score a few goals and we looked well on the way with an early goal from Toby. However, it was also obvious that Uckfield were determined that every opportunity would have to be fought for and despite some good attacking play, chances were relatively rare. Wadhurst had most success using the wings and it was no coincidence that Aaron was able to add a second from a tight angle running in from the right. Toby who was seeing plenty of the ball on the left then added a third, taking his total to five in the last two matches. However Uckfield finished the half strongly with a well taken goal and it was 3-1 at half time.

The second half saw plenty of chances for Wadhurst with both Murrie and Josh hitting the crossbar and several shots missing by inches or being saved by the Uckfield keeper was also in great form. Uckfield remained dangerous on the break and if it wasn't for some great work by Sam Evans, they might have stolen an unlikely draw. Amazingly no more goals were scored and the Wadhurst players came off the more disappointed team. However, they should remember that this was their 7th win in the last 8 league matches and it is a sign of how far we have come this season that they are not just looking at the result but also wanting to put in a great performance every time.

The Performance Award goes to Josh who is currently improving with every game. Man of the Match was a really tough decision to make with both Toby and Sam putting in match winning performances at opposite ends of the pitch. Sam just got the nod this time round though for a great defensive display from kick-off to the final whistle.
