Match Report

Match Report - 30 Mar 2008, Wadhurst United Junior Football Club Team not current lost to Ashurst Wood

A disappointing defeat which bought to an end our good recent winning sequence.

The match was in doubt right up until kick off following some very heavy rain and the pitch was only just playable. With hindsight it was a good day to win the toss. Unfortunately Ashurst did and choose to take the downhill advantage in the first half, which was particularly beneficial with the lower half of the pitch being significantly heavier. However, the teams were evenly matched for the first 10 minutes and Ross L and Mark both created good chances. Ashurst got the important first goal though and began to enjoy the majority of the possession. Whilst a second goal was quickly cancelled out by a fine strike by Ross L, Ashurst were able to add a 3rd for a 3-1 lead at half-time.

Now all the advantage lay with Wadhurst and when Ross L scored again for his 50th of the season, it seemed inevitable that we would go on and win the match. However, the 3rd goal wouldn't come. Ross L had the ball in the net twice, but was adjudged to have been offside both times and Ross B hit the post. A draw would have been a fair result, but Ashurst scored with a couple of minutes remaining to take the points.

After a good deal of reflection, we have decided not to make any match awards today.Whilst everyone worked hard we were a little off the recent high level of performances that we have achieved and we would like to keep the awards for when players have really great games.
