Match Report - 17 Feb 2008, Wadhurst United Junior Football Club Team not current beat Rusthall

A good win to bring the regular league season to an end, against a resilient Rusthall team.

We got off to another good start with Michael scoring after just 2 minutes and virtually all the play was in the Rusthall half for the first 20 minutes. However, only one of a number of great chances was taken, with Josh finishing from close range and Rusthall finished the half the stronger team. Their late pressure told, with a slightly fortunate goal and it was 2-1 at half time.

Unsurprisingly, Rusthall began the second half well and we were now totally on the back foot. They deservedly equalised and it looked like we would be regretting all of the missed chances in the first half. This proved the cue though for a Wadhurst rally and an immediate strike from Ross settled nerves. The chances began to come thick and fast again and Murrie and Toby both scored to give the final scoreline a measure of respectability.

Thanks go to Murrie and Sam today for being prepared to share goalkeeping duties and the defence all worked hard throughout to keep them protected. Well done also to Michael for moving to central defence just when we were on the ropes and this proved to be a turning point in the game. Reece and Campbell were both contenders for the Performance Award but it goes to Toby this week, who capped an excellent match with a deserved goal. Ross always makes sure he is in with a shout for Man of the Match and this week was no different, but Callum just pipped him on this occasion with a tireless display and a couple of great assists.
