Match Report - 29 Apr 2012, Wadhurst United Junior Football Club Team not current beat Tonbridge Junior
With the wind and torrential rain most parents would have preferred to stay at home, however the boys were definitely up for the game and they duly put in a good performance to beat Tonbridge Juniors 5-1. With goals required, James came in to start in place of Callum, Woody started out on the right and Ross L replaced Louis up front.
The changes worked and for once we got off to a good start with Woody scoring early on and Ross L soon following up with the second. We dominated for long periods and missed a number of chances but also found it difficult to beat the high line the Tonbridge defenders were playing. We needed the third goal before half time to make the points safe and it finally arrived as captain Murrie bundled the ball in for his first, and well deserved, goal of the season.
Changes were made at half time as Louis, Callum and Sam E all came on and the game continued with Wadhurst creating numerous chances. Louis added the fourth and Ross L the fifth but we hit the woodwork a number of times and missed a good number of chances. It would have been nice to keep another clean sheet but Tonbridge scored a late consolation goal.
This was a good all round performance from the team and MotM was shared by James who had an excellent game in midfield, and from right back Harvey who not only defended well but broke forward on several occasions and had a couple of good opportunities to score.
We are still in second place in the league and can only hope Rye slip up in their final match. All we could do is win the three games that we had in hand and score some goals to pull the goal difference back and try to put some pressure on Rye, this we have achieved, winning all three games and scoring 15 goals in the process. Everything comes down to the last game of the season next weekend.
