Match Report - 22 Apr 2012, Wadhurst United Junior Football Club Team not current beat Rusthall
A disciplined and workman like performance saw Wadhurst United beat third placed Rusthall for the second time in a month. The 3-0 score line, although well deserved, doesn’t tell the whole story as until the 70th minute Rusthall could still have taken the points.
For most of the first half the game was pretty even with clear cut chances at a premium. With Harvey and Carlin back in defence alongside Jake and Mike and Murrie in front of the back four we always looked very solid. However, the movement of the Wadhurst forwards, particularly Ross L and Louis, began to stretch the opposition defence and openings appeared. Callum hit the woodwork and Louis put one wide before Louis finally broke the deadlock by breaking clear and firing in off of the post.
Unsurprisingly Rusthall came out strongly in the second half but we had identified the need to close them down quicker, particularly in midfield, and Ross J, Callum, Sam F and Murrie all did their job. It remained tight at 1-0 until the last 10 minutes, although Callum had hit the bar and Ross L should have been awarded a blatant penalty, however Luke also had to pull off a couple of terrific saves at a vital time in the game. The killer second goal came when Sam F won the ball to poke it through to Ross J on the edge of the area for him to fire in. Ross L wrapped it up shortly afterwards chipping the goalkeeper from the edge of the penalty box.
Both Jake and Mike had good games at centre back, but MotM was shared by Luke for his vital saves and Ross L for his constant running up front.
This was our last home game of the season at ‘fortress’ Washwell Lane. We have won 9 and lost just 1 league game, conceding only 7 goals as only 3 teams actually managed to score against us, whilst banging in 45 goals ourselves. This was the best home record (defensively and attacking) in the Division.
