Match Report - 18 Mar 2012, Wadhurst United Junior Football Club Team not current beat Woodchurch
With the top four teams playing each other today a win was essential to keep Wadhurst within reach of Rye; a loss could have seen us drop below Rusthall to third. The lads rose to the occasion with a superb display against a very strong and skillful Woodchurch team.
Wadhurst got off to the perfect start with a goal in the first couple of minutes, a fine passing move started by James saw Murrie put the ball out to Sam on the left and his cross was met by Callum at the far post to head past the keeper. Wadhurst continued to press throughout the first half and missed several good chances although Woodchurch always looked dangerous on the quick break. Mike and Jake were looking strong again at the back but it was the midfield of Murrie, Callum, Ross and James that were running the show.
After the break we knew Woodchurch would come out strong and so it proved as they enjoyed a 15 minute spell when they dominated and created a few chances, although Luke never really had to make a save of note. Gradually our midfield began to take over again with Harvey and Carlin supporting well on the flanks. Louis’ continual chasing up front paid off as he was put clear and fired in for the second. However, the two goal lead was short lived as we failed to clear and Woodchurch pulled a goal back that went in off the post.
A tense final twenty minutes followed as both teams went for the next goal but we held out for a well deserved win. With the match so tight unfortunately we could not make any substitutions so alas Dom, Sam E and Woody did not get on. A great team performance was capped by a MotM display from James.
