Match Report - 20 Nov 2011, Wadhurst United Junior Football Club Team not current beat Woodchurch
This was a tough game against a big strong Woodchurch team, unsurprisingly made tougher by our uncanny ability to give away an early goal! Too much ball watching and not enough decisive action by our defenders put Woodchurch 1-0 up after only two minutes. Luckily Wadhurst immediately responded with a towering header from Mike from Murrie's corner. Another Murrie corner was bundled in by Ross J which settled the nerves, however Woodchurch always looked dangerous on the quick break. Ross J had a couple of great long range shots, the second hitting the post, and Mike and Jake were looking solid at centre back.
Wadhurst started much the stronger in the second half with the midfield led by Callum and Ross putting in a lot of good work and hard tackles. The openings gradually started to appear and Callum put a great ball through to Sam F to finish superbly for the crucial third goal. By now Wadhurst were really on top and creating chances, changes were made and Rory, Sam E and Tim came on to replace Harvey and the tiring Ross and Dom. A jinking run by Sam F saw the full back bring him down for a penalty which he calmly dispatched. Luke in goal always had to be alert as Woodchurch countered with their quick breaks and he pulled off one excellent save that allowed Wadhurst to then play out time. However, Louis who put in a lot of work upfront, often on his own, had other ideas and his chasing down caused the defender to give away possession, Rory finally getting the ball and putting Louis in for a well deserved goal.
The 5-1 scoreline perhaps flattered Wadhurst but the win was well deserved, especially for the second half performance. MotM was shared between Sam F for his tough tackling and decisive goals and Ross J who probably covered more ground than anyone and his never say die attitude.
