Match Report - 13 Nov 2011, Wadhurst United Junior Football Club Team not current lost to Lancing Rangers
The usual slow start cost Wadhurst dearly in this second round Sussex County Cup game against Lancing Rangers. A goal down after 30 seconds to a superb strike, we went 2-0 down after 3 minutes although everyone except the officials felt the ball had already gone out for a goal kick.
However, we gradually regained our composure and begain to play our way back into the game. We lacked some bite and fitness in midfield but used the flanks well to start to create chances, Woody having the best chance of the first half but there was nobody on hand to follow up after the Lancing keeper parried the shot.
With Ross L, Aaron and Rory on in the second half we had more urgency in what now was a very even game. The Lancing keeper pulled off several fine saves, most notably from Ross, and we finally scored a well deserved goal when Carlin followed up to score his first goal for the club. By now Wadhurst were on top and looked for the equaliser, however 10 mins from time the outstanding Lancing striker evaded several challenges before striking his second superb goal of the game. Wadhurst pushed on and we missed a couple of good chances near the end but Lancing held on for the win.
I think that we gave the opposition too much respect in the first 10 mins and by the time we realised that we were just a good we were 2-0 down. However, the boys never gave up and battled to the end. MotM went to Dom.
