Match Report - 24 Oct 2009, Wadhurst United Junior Football Club Team not current drew with Jarvis Brook Juniors

On a day when Stoke beat Spurs and Birmingham beat Sunderland the boys learnt that the better footballing side doesn't always win the match. However, we should not forget that Jarvis Brook are a strong, well established squad in this league, where we have been newly promoted

Wadhurst Oak 1 v 1 Jarvis Brook Lazio

Were we awake in the first 2 minutes ? It didn't seem like it as the boys went behind to a very soft goal early in the first half. Despite this early set back we fought our way back into the game and the equaliser from Rob came in the middle of the second half. Those are the facts of the morning but let's be clear about this game we were by far the better side. Strong in defence with Lucas playing out of his skin, we controlled the game in all areas. A little bit of luck up front and we could have walked it. It appears the boys really grew up in this game. I have never seen such great passing, movement and communication. We played around the opposition and created a number of great chances. It was just not our day. Again Cameron reads the game so well and holds them together, but importantly this game showed how far we have progressed. Strong in defence, inventive in mid field we just lacked that finish up front.

Man of the Match. Lucas “It pains me to say it” Munro.

Wadhurst Oak 0 v 1 Jarvis Brook Roma

Look to lose by a single goal is unlucky enough, but when that goal is an own goal - well. Again we were the better side. Again we missed chance after chance. But let's just remember on a day drenched in rain the boys all worked hard to defend well, control the mid field and create chances. The defensive trio of Lucas, Cameron and Will controlled this game against a physical, strong and determined Jarvis Brook. We created chances moved the ball creatively from one end of the pitch to the other but we just could not put the ball in the net. The opposition had strength and we struggled against a very physical and aggresive Jarvis Brook. Despite their strength we saw chance after chance go begging - we could have scored four or five. Time to work on converting chances I think!

Man of the Match Cameron “ Yet again best player on the park“

Wadhurst Beech 3 v 3 Jarvis Brook Roma

Jarvis Brook are a strong, physical and well organised team, but the boys stuck to the task well and we took advantage of the slope in the first half with some well taken goals to lead 2 - 0 at half time. We were expecting strong pressure from Roma in the second half, and in spite of allowing one goal early on, some excellent defensive work from Henry, Jacob and Connor helped us snatch a 3rd against the run of play. The passing and movement was exceptional at times , but with the Roma pressure building, we had to shore up the defence - but the pressure took its toll in the end, and having already reduced the deficit to just one goal, with almost the last kick of the game, Roma snatched a draw - this was oh so nearly a great win, and excellent hard work and commitment from everyone on the field.

Man of the Match - Oscar Steward - 2 great goals and some excellent midfield work

Wadhurst Beech 1 v 3 Jarvis Brook Lazio

Another hard fought match against an extremely physical side, Beech were pushed hard against the slope, but battled for possession in increasingly difficult conditions. Once again some of our passing and link play was really great to watch, but the slope advantage really does make a difference on pitch 4 and Lazio took a 2 goal lead into half time, in spite of excellent keeping from George. Max switched to midfield to release Matthew up front, but a 3rd goal for Roma really put the pressure on - it was excellent to see the boys respond so positively however, and they never let their heads drop and maintained the pressure - the Beech goal was a real peach with Oscar threading the ball through to Matthew who struck it first time into the back of the goal. Once again, the boys can be delighted with the tremendous effort and commitment shown, as well as the continued improvement in the quality of their passing and movement. I, for one, was immensely proud of them all

Man of the Match - George Marshall - great keeping and commitment across the 2 games, and willingly took the keeping role for the good of the team - excellent example George!
