Match Report - 06 Jan 2008, Wadhurst United Junior Football Club Team not current beat East Peckham

A great start to 2008 with a comfortable win against a team that we have previously struggled to beat.

It was a very sluggish start, which was perhaps understandable after the Christmas break and it was still 0-0 after 15 mins with both teams having scoring chances. Indeed it needed an excellent 1 on 1 save by Tom to keep things level. However, the all important first goal was scored by Michael and after a quick second from Ross L, Wadhurst took control of the match. Mark scored his first goal for the club and Michael added the fourth with an outstanding header from Callum's corner. The first half ended with yet another penalty save from Tom to make it an amazing 3 from 3 this season.

Despite the lead, it was important to begin the second half well, but any worries of an East Peckham fightback were blown away with a superb fifth goal which was a contender for goal of the season. An excellent five man passing move was finished with a magnificent strike by Ross L. Ross was then able to add a third for his hat-trick and with Murrie adding a 7th the game was over. Understandably there was little action in the last 10 minutes, with many tired legs. However it should be noted that Murrie had a second goal harshly disallowed on a linesmans flag which came around 30 seconds after the goal had been scored and the defence had to work hard to keep East Peckham to just one consolation goal, with the long ball over the top being their favoured approach right to the end.

It is always difficult to single out individual performances from such a good overall team performance. However, Mark earned the Performance Award with his best game (and first goal) since joining the team, whilst Ross L's hatrick can not be overlooked and he is the Man of The Match
