Match Report - 27 Nov 2011, Wadhurst United Junior Football Club Team not current beat Pevensey & Westham

A good workman like performance saw Wadhurst progress to the Cup semi-finals with a 5-0 win over Pevensey from the 'B' league. Pevensey more than held their own for the first 25 minutes as Wadhurst gradually wore the opposition down and began to create chances. The strong wind did not help and made it harder to control the ball, however as the sun began to shine then we began to play the much better football.

A good through ball to Woody 'I'm gonna score in a minute' Woodruff saw him pulled down for a penalty. Although the goals were only 3/4 size the referee still counted out the full distance but Sam F tucked the ball home. Both Ross and Aaron were making good runs down the wings, Aaron won a corner on the right and Sam's cross was headed in by Mike for his second goal in two games. This settled any nerves and Wadhurst began to dominate possession and teritory with Callum and Ross bossing midfield. Ross made another great run down the right to cross for Aaron to tap in to make it 3-0 at half time. Luke was handling well in goal in the difficult wind but was comprehensively beaten by a dog who ran into the goal and got caught up in the net.

On came James, Sam E and Louis at half time and as in the first half Pevensey held their own for a while until Wadhurst began to make the chances again. James in particular looked back to his old self, keeping the ball on the floor and getting his head up to find those killer passes. The goal of the game (or season?) came as Sam F picked up the ball on the left beat two defenders and smashed a left foot shot from the edge of the penalty area in to the top corner.

By now Luke was pretty much a bystander in goal as the Wadhurst defence looked strong in front of him, Carlin and Sam E both playing well. Louis, Aaron and Woody were all guilty of missing chances towards the end, however Louis finally got his reward scoring the 5th goal.

This was another strong performance after a slow start with everyone contributing, we created chances and kept a clean sheet, a good combination to take into the semi's. MotM went to James for his impressive second half performance.
