Match Report - 09 Oct 2011, Wadhurst United Junior Football Club Team not current lost to Rye Bay
Although we could make excuses about the size of the pitch which might be suitable for U11's or the fact that these were 6 a-side goals, the fact is that we were just not good enough in the first half. 3-0 down inside of 20 minutes we were just not at the races. To be fair Rye played some neat football but we just forgot the basics and poor defending handed them a lead that was hard to pull back.
With Sam Evans standing in as both goalkeepers were missing and several other players missing, Woody made his full debut upfront and both players did well. Our usual solid defence looked shakey and the midfield lacked bite and communication. However by half time we had worked out how to play on the small pitch and were soon back in the game when Dom flicked on a long throw. Some confidence returned and we then pressed for most of the second half although Rye always looked dangerous on the counter.
By now Callum and James were working hard in midfield and picking out the right passes. The second goal came from Sam F after his penalty was saved and he followed up the rebound. The last 10 minutes was all Wadhurst but a deserved equaliser never came. Both the opposing manager and referee congratulated Murrie on his performance and he was certainly MotM.
