Match Report
Match Report - 13 Apr 2008, Wadhurst Junior Football Club Under 16's beat Tonbridge Invicta
A thoroughly enjoyable game with an excellent attacking performance earning a well deserved win.
Wadhurst started very brightly, scoring very early thanks to a great shot from Ross L running onto a high quality through ball from Murrie. There then followed numerous Wadhurst chances with shots hitting the bar and post and some outstanding saves from the Tonbridge goalkeeper, but the second goal would not come. There was no doubt that Tonbridge gained heart from the misses. They equalised after 20 mins and, finishing the half more strongly, could have taken a lead into half-time.
Wadhurst made a tactical change at half-time, moving to 4-3-3 and this paid dividends immediately. The ball rarely left the Tonbridge half and now chances were being taken with Ross scoring twice more for his hat-trick. These goals sandwiched the goal of the game with Ross putting in a brilliant cross from the left which was met by a a clinical far post volley from Murrie. The Tonbridge defenders just couldn't handle Ross and he scored twice more for his second 5 goal haul in the last 3 games. This was not a one man show though, with Callum twice almost capping a brilliant game with a goal and Toby and Mark also coming close. Tonbridge scored two late consolation goals to make the final score a little closer than perhaps it should have been, but this did not take the shine of a greatly improved team performance.
11 players and 11 candidates for the awards but impossible to overlook Ross for Man of the Match and Murrie wins the Performance award for some very thoughful and skillful play which resulted in at least three of the Wadhurst goals.
