Match Report
Match Report - 10 Feb 2008, Wadhurst Junior Football Club Under 16's beat Ashurst Wood
This must rank as the team's performance's of the season and it came in a vital fixture guaranteeing us an excellent 3rd place finish in the league.
The pitch at Ashurst Wood has a significant slope and with the low sun also favouring the higher end, it was a vital toss to win. Nevertheless it was still crucial to make the most of the first half advantage, but this was never in doubt with Wadhurst piling on pressure right from the kick off. The team worked hard to create multiple chances, two of these being converted by Ross L and added to by a spectacular curling corner from Callum. This gave us a thoroughly deserved 3-0 lead at half-time.
Now though the tables were turned and the question was would 3-0 prove enough playing against both the slope and the sun or would we come to regret some of the near misses of the first half. The answer was that a massive effort by the whole team cancelled out any advantage that Ashurst had. The majority of the chances were still coming our way and we might have had any number of goals when with ten minutes to go, Ross L completed yet another hatrick and the match was won.
It should come as no surprise that this has been the hardest match yet to pick the award winners, with every single player having a claim for the Performance Award. It is even unfair to offer a shortlist so everyone gets a mention:
Thomas - Deserved a clean sheet - fearless in coming for the ball when the boots are flying. May yet prove mad enough to be a great keeper.
Sam/Jack - Bruce/Pallister, Adams/Winterburn, Terry/Ferdinand, enough said.
Reece - "So he's twice as big as me - he's still going down."
Toby - Tackle back,pass, Run 80yds, Shoot, get back,pass,run 80yds. No problem!
Murrie - When I asked you to play like Hargreaves does, I meant in the same position, not like Hargreaves does - Nice One!
Mark - A few more great midfield performances like that and I promise not to mention how good you look in defence!
Callum - There's a rumour that he once slowed to a sprint but not in the 4 yrs that I have been watching him play. And he's quite good at taking corners!
Ross B - Great link play with the strikers - and whilst running up that steep hill as well!
Michael - A goal a game man and deserved to keep his average going today. Calculator broke trying to work out how much chances he set up.
Josh - Always looking to make an intelligent pass - It beats running as much as Callum does!
Ross L - 38 goals from 18 games and so good looking as well - Its just not fair on all the others.
Murrie (just)gets the Performance Award, Ross L is (just)Man of the Match.
Well Done Everyone.
