Match Report - 11 Mar 2012, Wadhurst Junior Football Club Under 16's beat Tonbridge Junior
On paper this should have been a straightforward match against bottom club Tonbridge Juniors. However, it proved anything but that, in fact Tonbridge played better than most teams who have come to Washwell Lane and all credit to them. Luke was back in goal after injury and James played wide on the left with Sam F coming back from injury, whilst Sam E started at left back replacing Carlin.
The first half was pretty much a midfield battle with Murrie, Callum and Ross gradually gaining the upper hand, consequently chances were at a premium although Luke did pull off one spectacular save early on. Jake and Mike were assured at the heart of the defence but we looked disjointed in the final third and knew at half time that we had to change things as only a win would keep us in touch with the league leaders. Therefore Carlin replaced Sam E, Dom came in on the right of midfield and Sam F on the left.
In the second half we began to get the ball down and start to play our passing game, with now almost total domination we started to create chances, particularly down the left where natural left footers Carlin and Sam were combining well. However, as time went on we still could not put the ball in the net and with 15 minutes left desperate times call for desperate measures so we pushed Ross upfront alongside the hard working Louis and sacrificed a defender with Harvey making way. I always felt that once we scored further goals would follow, and so it proved. Callum rose to head in a left wing cross, followed shortly after by Louis scoring the second whilst several good changes went begging in the last 5 minutes.
A frustrating performance today but the win was enough to keep us in second place. There were particularly good performances from the hard working Callum and Mike but MotM goes to Jake for his assured and dominant game at the back.
